Sunderland Minster is currently at a very exciting point in its long history. The Diocese of Durham has recently been granted £8M by the Strategic Mission & Ministry Investment Board of the Church of England – 20% of which has been earmarked for the revitalisation of the Minster.
The grant, which will be released over the course of the next 6 years, aims to resource the Minster to become financially viable by 2030/31, so that we can not only maintain our building and pay our bills, but flourish, with all kinds of new events, and ministry, taking place in and beyond our premises.
It also aims to resource us with staff and capacity to grow our existing congregations, to “plant” new congregations and to resource our wider community ever more generously, imaginatively and inclusively, so that the love of Christ might be known, shown and grown amongst the people of our wonderful city of Sunderland!
Funding is being made available for us to make four very significant appointments:
- A full-time Director of Operations: to oversee our finances, governance, revenue generation, building and events.
- A part-time Administrative Officer: to set up and maintain our office and administration and communications.
- *A full-time (5 year post) Intergenerational Music Specialist: to grow our existing musical offer, and expand it, so that we can offer wonderful music in a range of genres to resource our worship and enrich our community.
- *A full-time (5 year post) Specialist in Spirituality, Creativity and Wellbeing: to develop our aspiration to be a fully inclusive church, gathering groups and building congregations that are accessible to all.
*As the 5 year posts will be closely involved in the discipling of Christians, and helping them to grow in faith, it is a genuine occupational requirement that they are practising Christians – though as a member of Inclusive Church, the Minster welcomes LGBTQIA+ applicants.
The first two of these appointments are currently being advertised, and you can find all the details by clicking below:
